I missed the boy in the background when originally taking the photo. (Everything was moving too quickly.) In fact, this photo was primed for discard, but then I noticed the boy covering his ears in the background. I had not focused on the boy originally.

The apparent DOF with a focus on the boy was all done post processing using Picasa2 and Photoshop. I also did some sharpening and lightened parts of the image including the boy and cymbals.

Pretty amazing what you can do with software these days.
