My Giant Lily

My Giant Lily

I've been going over some of my photographs that I took

last summer. This lily grew to five foot nine inches

and the blooms were nine inches wide. I have no idea

why it got so tall as I bought it with other bulbs of

the same type.

Hi Alandra, Yes, this lily had a very aromatic scent. I did find out

that this particular lily was as it should be, large and tall. The

nursery where I perchased them had an advertisement this year. I was

amazed there was such a oriental giant as this lily. What must have

happened is that my order got one of the tall lilies in the package.

Every year it got taller and larger. This lily growes up to eight feet

tall over a period of three or four years.

Hi Anne, have only just seen this lovely photo. What a beautiful lily, and so large too. Did it have a wonderful scent, some of them do. At one time we had some pretty lilies in the back garden, but most of them gradually disappeared.

Hi there Whittler. Thank you popping in and viewing my giant lily.

The lighting was all the sun. I did tone down the over exposure which

darkened the background.

Thank you Mary, Karen, Carol and Jas. Yes, Jas it is an oriental lily.

I had many until the "red lily eating beatle got to them". I read up

on the beatle and you have to hand pick them off. The lady down the

street had many wonderful lilies until the beatle took over. She pulled all the lilies out. Thank you all for you comments. It sure

stood tall in my little garden.

A lovely shot of your giant lily Ann. Is it an oriental lily; it looks like the same family. Anyway, great macro of this beauty. :)
