I've done quite a few of his also but have never finished one in an hour. LOL! Let me know how you like the acrylics. For me I don't care for the feel, just not smooth enough, but they dry so quickly and that's a plus.

Yes it the wet on wet technique, I learned and am still learning with Bob Ross though I will soon be trying acrylic.
