First View of Montour Falls

First View of Montour Falls

I was enchanted over my first sight of Montour Falls, New York, this afternoon. The trees are finally in bloom up here, but I never expected the town's main street to lead directly to its namesake like this. I've intentionally left in the power lines to emphasize my 'first view'.

The large white house at the end of the road is a bed and breakfast.

Hi Alex - I suggest this waterfall to new campground arrivals who want their first area 'waterfall fix'. I also suggest they approach it from this angle as it's such an unusual immediate visual impact. After that - they're ready for more! Vicki

Extraordinary shot, Vicki! What a picture can't convey of course is the noise of all that water. If that B&B is as close to the falls as the compressed perspective of this shot makes it appear, then I doubt I'd sleep a wink! :)

Hi Mary. It is quite an unexpected, yet amazing waterfall to behold. I'm hoping I can walk out on the bridge, but by the projection I doubt that I will get this fullness of the waters or even see the river at the bottom. Fingers crossed. Hopefully there will be a place to pull off. We were not planning on going that way tomorrow - if time permits on the ay back e will as it isn't far from here. Vicki

This first view rather surprised me too, Cindy - the waterfall definitely dwarfs the town, but fortunately the river it empties into is quite a distance below street level. Don, I had never seen a photo of this waterfall before. I was fascinated by all the 'mini' falls after the rain and snow runoff . . . can't wait to see more of these - we're off to one tomorrow that's even higher than Niagara Falls - but obviously a lot more narrow!
