Lady Hamilton

This is Lady Hamilton a mighty Marenghi steam organ dating from 1903 as used on the travelling fairs complete with working military automata .. When this starts up with something like The Galloping

Major pumping the music out with all the bells cymbals etc it can attract small boys, and not so small boys like wasps around a jam jar ..

That Fairground-organ was recently stolen yes stolen. First a steam organ is called a calliope those are used at circuses. This is a Fairground organ, the American version of those are called Band Organs. Anyway there has been a string of street and fair organ thefts in Holland and Englend. I am a member of a club that has to do with Fairground organs called A.M.I.C.A(Automatic,Musical,Insteuments,Collecters,Assn). You dont have to own any mechanical music just visit our website at www.A.M.I.C.A.org.

By the way those organs are played by a buch of cardboard cards attached togrther with holes called book music. Band organs use paper rolls in fact some of the relly old crank(Street)organs use pinned cylendars called barrels or cobs. That became insaficent in the 1880s or so. Rolls came around 190O books came around 1880s.
