Lightning Bolt

After a lot of trial and error, I finally lucked out and captured this lightning bolt. I'm not sure what the best settings for shooting lightning, but I used 125 shutter speed, f3.3, isa400, high color, standard tone, white/black was set to auto, and S was set to auto though I'm not sure what S is. I had to put it on manual focus (the auto focus was preventing any pictures because of the black sky), and I put it on shutter priority so that I could make sure the shutter was fast enough to keep the image somewhat stable. If you have taken lightning pictures before, please comment and let us know what the best shutter speed and other settings to use. I've always wanted to shoot a lightning bolt, so I think this is a successful first shot. This is the original version, which curiously included a purple hue.

This is one of the coolest pics I've seen.

Is it copyrighted or could I use it on my blog, which is all about back pain relief, but I feature cool pics too.

Great shot Brian, And to comment on Commodore17's comment.... A film camera that has a Bulb feature would be an SLR Camera and any Digital SLR camrea will also have a Bulb feature.

the bulb or manual shutter mode is best although digital cameras often dont have such settings.I find the closer the lightning the higher the f-stop required. The purple may have something to do with the closeness of the strike because i had one which was very close and it also turned out purple. Best of luck with future shots anyway.
