Lilly Lake is one of the larger lakes in the Uinta mountains, which is dotted with hundreds of small lakes and ponds. Because the Uinta's are very high in elevation, air is forced upward over the mountains. As it is forced upward, it cools, and since cooler air cannot hold as much water, it rains frequently here.
