Something Old

These are genuine Kauri flowers that have been varnished to protect them. They are very old having belonged to my nana. Hoping to get a nice shot of them, I 'blu tacked' them to a equalyptus tree.

Apologies to the lens flare viewers, I did not intentionally mean to mislead anybody, I genuinally believed these to be a pretty flower that evolved from the kauri cone. Thank you, to the viewer that corrected me. Cripes!!!.....I hope that Locust shell I put on really is one now!

They sound exactly the same as mine, my mum gave me these too and they also have a clasp on the back. What a funny wee world we live in!

What you have in this photo are the bits from a kauri cone glued together to form a flower, Quite a popular craft 20 odd years ago, I have 2 of them from my mother, they each have a safety clip clasp on the back, to attach to a lapel.

Lol, your comment sent me on an internet buzz and now I can say we were both wrong. The kauri tree is a non-flowering tree, these trees have seeds and pollen but produce cones instead of flowers. The cone is often called the flower, having both male and female on the same tree. Male cones long and thin, female sperical. Winged seeds are carried by the wind once the cone has opened, giving the appearence of a wooden flower.

These are not Kauri tree flowers, from memory Kauri flowers are white.

Thanks very much for viewing Alandra. They are such interesting flowers and look quite wooden. I did an internet search and couldn't find any pictures of them at all.
