Building A Nest

While at my parents house in California I noticed this wasp building a nest or what ever it's called on the back side of the lead seal on there power meter. It would work on it, then go someplace and come back with more mud. It ended up looking like a little ball with a hole with a horn bell entrance.

Thanks Golda, Steve, and Mike for your nice comments... Yea I would not want to get stung. After thinking about the nest, the horn shape fits it's rear just right for depositing the eggs? I know nothing about wasps. Glad you all liked my photo and hope it gave you the shivers..

Fascinating shot! I hope it succeeded in breeding! It's a useful reminder that not all nature is cuddly.
