Polka-dotted Wasp Moth

One of the most beautiful insects I know. This particular season, my goldenrod was heavy with this species. They are day flying moths - completely harmess, though they mimic a wasp, hence the name.

They are brilliant iridescent in the sun and the red on its back end is bright as a spotlight.

They get used to you soon. I don't know the range - they are here in nw FL.

Found one at Ft. Morgan summer before last...and, yes, its a spectacular animal! Think it may also be called Oleander moth.

May, this is a beautiful moth and a well-composed photo. I never saw any in the Ocala or Ft Myers areas while I was there. Thank you for sharing.
