Fire in the Water - Hummingbird

"fire" in the water of the fountain, - from the hummingbird's iridescent throat feathers (gorget). It was a most gorgeous red/gold colour flashing in the evening light. Wonderful to see this.

Thought some of you might be interested to see this, altho realize it's not the best capture :) - but it's sortof unusual, so wanted to share it.

Had been gardening last evening and went inside to get the camera, when this male Rufous hummingbird came by for his evening bathe. He's very elusive, only stays a few seconds, and I was seated a bit too low to get a good capture, but he'd have zoomed away if I'd stood up. However, will try to do better and capture some better images of this elusive fella. I don't understand why the Rufous males are so elusive, plus they don't remain in our area very long.

thanks also, Carol and Lorraine, missed thanking you. Well, it's strange as at times they don't seem to mind that much if you're taking pics of them, - the females anyway, - like last year when I was capturing those images as she was hovering atop the water fountain in the lilypond. She must have seen me. And same when she was at the foxglove flowers last year, I got several shots of her at those flowers etc. Depends how intent they are on what they're doing I guess :)

appreciate your comments, Alex, - hoped some would find it interesting, despite it not being that sharp a shot. Sometimes the auto focus isn't sure what to focus on, in this case, the water bubble or the hummer lol.

I think all hummingbirds at least the ones we get are very elusive, they will fly off if they spot anything around them.

Thats what makes them so challenging to photograph.
