Heron flying with sticks for nest

great blue heron, lifting off with sticks in its beak, to take to the cliffside/bluff where it's building its nest, along with many other herons.

This is a few minutes drive from where we live.

Hi Alan, thanks for the nice comments, glad you enjoyed this one. The wings in that position are cool. It looks as if the heron's eye is watching me, too.

that's nice of you, Don, many thanks. Well, we noticed last summer that the herons were flying over top of us, much moreso than they are at this time of the season, - we went there last year when the babies were already hatched. When there recently, we noticed they really avoid flying overhead.

Very cool capture Alandra. Blue Herons are pretty shy all the time around here. I know where a huge rookery is about an hour from here. It is amazing how they get in and out of the trees with those large wings. Great shot! Don

appreciate your nice comments, Karen. Of course, wish the herons had been closer, but hoped for the best, considering the distance involved - plus they are very shy at this stage of the nesting season.

thanks Lorraine, yes, they have a huge wingspan. It's amazing how they navigate around the tree branches when they land at their nests.
