Heron & Eagle, strange capture

strange capture of an immature Bald Eagle and a Great Blue Heron, near the nesting area of the Herons last evening.

There was so much commotion going on, raucous squawking/honking noise from the Heron Flock and much flapping and flying around, loads of herons all at once flying in close proximity, it was hard to sort them out : ) It was a bit overwhelming to say the least LOL

Just stunning to have them both so close! And the great bonus of a beautiful blue sky Alandra!

Thanks Mary and Vicki, it's too bad the heron is blurry, but thought it might be of some interest. The strange part is, the Eagles weren't actually making any attempts to fight with the herons, despite how this photo appears. As you say, the racoons will also be after the heron eggs. I read that it's called a "Rookery", also strange.

Great capture, Alandra. Eagles are enemies of herons. If you have a heronry nearby with eggs or chicks, the eagle as well as raccoons and many other predators will be looking for tasty treats.

Looks like the Eagle is going to attack the Heron. It would be overwhelming to watch this going on.
