My Xmas Present

Well, I finally got the Springfield XD45 pistol from the wife for Xmas this year. What a surprise. But, she knows I really enjoy two things. Shooting with both my camera and my handguns. Besides, I had hinted enough about this one. I think she is a keeper.

Hi Hannibal! I suppose I'm the person responsible for starting this ball rolling, and my intention was never to offend anyone either. I do want to make it clear that I've never suggested for a moment that being interested in guns makes you a violent person. I think that all I was saying is that a lot of us over here see guns as a sometimes necessary evil, but find it difficult to think about guns as things one might actually enjoy! But as Alan says, this is simply a thought provoking exchange of ideas, not an attempt to say that one lot of people is wrong and another lot right. In that sense your image has turned out to be one of the most interesting on this site, as well as a skillful photograph in its own right. So thanks for posting it!

Thank you for all your nice comments. I appreciate that. And, again, I am a very non violent person who likes to take my pistols to the local gun range and target practice. I prefer to shoot things with my camera. But, this is one of my other interests.

One person asked, "Would I shoot someone if attacked?" Let me answer this way. If that other person had a weapon and I felt my life, or my family's life to be in danger, I would not hesitate. Fortunately, I have never had to experience that kind of a situation and hope I never do. I realize this is a very sore subject with some people and if I have offended anyone with my photographs I am sorry your upset. My intent was not to upset anyone. I was happy with a Christmas gift and wanted to share my happiness with other members of this forum. Again, I am not a violent person. It is just something I enjoy. Not near as much as using my DSLR, but I enjoy it the same.

Actually, it is a Black Matte finish.

As for the negative comments about guns, that is ok, everyone is entitled to their opinions. As for me and my guns, my camera will always be my first choice to shoot, but I do like going to the range and plinking at a few targets. As for having the guns, they were first purchased for 3 reasons. #1. Enjoyment at the local gun range. #2. Self Defense. #3. Home Defense. I am very seldom without one of them and I bought them in high hopes that I would never have to use them for #2 or #3. I am a very non-violent person.

Thanks for all the nice comments.

Oh,about the photo,I think its a nice shot,as I believe that piece has a satin finish and not a dark glossy black,am I right?

Steve, this is why we had the tea party buddy :-). I'm proud to be a Yank and have rights. This is not West England, it is America. Land of the free. (stepping down from soap box now :-)

Nice capture of the new 45 Hannibal. A real beauty, Don

Hi Alan - this is where us Brits and you Yanks (can I say that?) part company a bit. On the whole the idea of having a few hand guns lying around, and describing them as "nice", fills me with a kind of dread! Not that this isn't a skillful capture, although to be really picky I'd say that the black point needs to be adjusted a bit as the black of the gun isn't quite black enough.

Hey Steve, I also have a few hand guns with a Ruger 22 as my favorite. I also have a old 20ga shotgun that my Dad bought me. That XD-45 looks really nice.. I have not shot any of mine in years. I hunt the rabbits with my camera now.

Nice presentation of a nice piece.

We share some of the same hobbies, but leaving law enforcement I kind of weaned off of the firearms towards archery, and actually do most of my shooting with the camera.

Well, Hannibal, I'd rather encourage your first hobby than your second!
