Hi Alex, thanks for the comments. I still can't really say which I like best of the 2 lenses. Certainly use the 100-400 L more, for the type of photography I enjoy, (birds, wildlife locally). I got the Canon 1.4X teleconverter for the 70-200 2.8, to give it more "scope". But haven't used that much yet either. The thing is, they all have certain qualities that a person likes about them, so this is what makes it difficult to say which I like best. BTW, the 70-200 is very heavy. I think it might even be heavier than the 100-400, altho the front doesn't extend like the 100-400, so it's a bit more compact, but with the weight of it, you don't really notice that :)

Sorry, am not much help with this. Maybe an idea would be to rent each lens for a day or so, and give each one a trial. There are some camera stores that do rent these lenses. Think I'd do that if I were you.

Nice shot here. Was reading your comments to Mary about lenses. Didn't know you had a 70-200 2.8L in addition to your 100-400. Please let me know which you like better. Next year when I am ready to upgrade from my 70-200 f/4L I will have to choose one. Just got a 24-70 2.8L myself to replace my 28-135 IS. It is a beautiful lens, but very hefty and somewhat bulky. It is a great indoor lens, but I am not so sure it is a good choice as a walkaround lens outdoors. Real sharp, nice accurate colors and works well in low light. It will take me a couple of months to decide if it is a good match for my style of photography.

thankyou Anne and Janice for the nice comments, happy you like it. Am not sure about the little red flowers, Anne, - as only noticed those onscreen. Might be small carnations?

That's true Janice, the design would look pretty on china.

A lovely and delicate bouquet of color, a work of art!! As above so below - grin. What were the 4 little red flowers? My eyes aren't as bright as they used to be. *g* The bouquet a hostess longs for. I thought it beautiful!

many thanks Carol and Mike, glad you like it. The only thing about gerberas is that they don't have as lovely a scent as some flowers, but their beauty & lasting properties compensate.

thanks for the nice comments, Steve. I don't mind you saying you aren't keen on the salmon pink colour :) Am such a fan of gerberas that I love 'em all :) Am a real one for vivid colours in my own garden.

Lovely composition Alandra. It's probably a sacrilege to say so, but I'm not sure that I really like that salmon pink colour! But that doesn't stop it from being a great photograph.

Hi Lorraine, thanks for the nice comments. Interesting what you wrote re the bride bouquets over there, - can understand this, as they are available in such beautiful colours.

A lovely shot , the gerberas are becoming quite popular here in the bride bouquets that I photograph

Hi Mary, thanks very much, happy you like it :) Well, that's kindof hard to answer really, as they all have different purposes. I've always loved the long lens, 100-400, for the bird images, as you know. Have used that one more than any, so far. The 24-105 is so great for the wider shots, and so nice to carry around on the camera :) --- BUT, after having this new 70-200 for a couple of days, - & before really being able to use it that well yet, -- believe it's already forming a close place in my heart and mind :) The colours are so great. And another advantage is that it's 2.8 "all the way thru", whereas the 100-400 is 4 - 5.6 something like that :) You know I'm no great camera technical wizard, "flying by the seat of my pants" :) - but that's my feeling so far. I'll always be loyal to the 100-400, - I just love them all.
