Fox Hunt

This fox is a frequent visitor at Mike's daughter's home. I took this one through the RV window.

Thank you, Alex. This is the first time I've seen them so openly during the day. Vicki

Thank you, Beverly. i was pleased as I had to zoom as far as I could to the tree line - plus shoot through a non-too-clean window! Vicki

Nice capture. With the framing you did, it looks like painting.

Good job

Hi again, Mary. Presque Ile is a lovely park - I took a side detour to get photos of the lighthouse about 3 years ago (and to visit an old fiend who lived in East at the time). That's a good point you made - about the red fox approaching you. It's often a sign of an ill animal - or perhaps humans had been feeding it without realizing they weren't doing it any favors. This one is cautious around people, but as another image showed, it didn't fully run away either after it ran out of the copse. I really hadn't expected it to start working it's way back.

When I got this image it was back across the field, calmly trotting back and forth - apparently playing. I didn't dare go back outside, so got what I could through my not-quite-clean-enough back window. (The side window was where I had to filter the image.)

Thanks for the feedback. Vicki

I think you need a permit now to keep a wild animal...but this was years ago...

Several years ago I was with some bird watchers visiting Lake Erie Presque Isle and stopped the car to photograph a Red Fox but when I got out of the car, it was walking right towards me so I got back in, left, and reported it at the park office. I thought it was unusual that it was approaching me instead of running away.

Hi Lorraine and Mary. He is beautiful, Lorraine. Mary, I thought it was illegal to keep wild animals as pets anymore? What a shame about your red fox.

I've seen them in Michigan - but always in a huge hurry. We saw one crossing the road in Warrenton 2 days ago. But this one surprises me by being out and about without much fear in the middle of the day. Vicki

Vicki...how fortunate that you get to see and photograph the Red Fox. Years ago I had one as a pet. We let him run and he always came home except for the last time...someone shot him for the bounty on the ears. They called and told us, we had a collar on him with ID and of course they didn't know that he was a pet until it was done. I always took him shopping with me..he rode in the back seat and always caused a stir. :) Your photo brought back memories. Very nice!
