Steve that is fantastic I have told my NZ Aussy friends that they need to go back to their garden centers and order some trees to plant

I only discovered yesterday that i have a fejoa tree in my front yard. Most people at work love them.

Lynne - oooops, sorry I called you Lulu. Must have been engrossed in her alcoholic Feijoa drink. Lol. Good Luck with the growing.

Lynee good luck with growing them. they have wonderful different taste and textures. Keep in touch. We have had big storms over here and all my fruit has fallen off all of our trees including the blossoms.

Bernie thank you for looking and leaving a coment. we have a few new fejoa flowers coming in so hopefully we will still get some fruit

What a beautiful flower. I had no idea they looked like that. Hope you have plenty of flowers. I'll have to come up in a couple of weeks to check!

Lulu. Sounds like you will be the envy of the non-Kiwis on this site. Try putting them in a shallow tray of soil first, to get seedlings. Or damp cotton wool??? I'm no gardner, but they may like to be more enclosed to star with. Egg cartons are great. And if your egg cartons are like ours, once you have the seedling, you can transfer the whole carton to the pot.

I HAVE MANAGED TO GET MY HANDS ON FEJOA SEEDS FROM A SPECIALIST SEED SUPPLIER. I HAVE PLANTED THEM INTO SMALL POTS BUT THEY DON'T SEEM TO BE GERMINATING. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Lulu I agree. Have a drink for me.

You would have to be quick to photograph them around me. Once cut, they are eaten straight away! I'm currently drinking a feijoa drink (alcoholic too I might add). Some things are just too nice to be exclusive so we really must share.

Thank you Talsi and Mary. Yes I will take photos of the fruit whole and cut and add them.

Now that you've shown us the lovely flower you will have to photo the fruit so we can see what it looks like, whole and cut open so we can see the outer leaves and flesh.:) The flower is exotic looking and very pretty.

Interesting and a quite lovely flower.

LULU I knew you or Michael would know thank you for the answer. I am hoping the heavy winds we are getting here wont blow the flowers off so we get no fruit.

Lulu from New Zealand on Nov 18, 2006 at 3:17 AM said:

Yum, its nearly feijoa time. I must check mine. To answer an earlier question - yes, these delicious fruit are exclusive to New Zealand from what I hear. Something to keep in mind to taste when you all visit.

Hi Lorraine and Mike thanks for looking. I dont think fejoa;s are a New Zealand. I have only traveled to Australia and Rarotonga and they dont grow in either of thesen places. Ill have to investigate this. If anyone out there knows the answer I would love to know

Hi Donwrob. Fejoa is a fruit it has an egg like shape and ranges in sizes. it has a eddible outer green skin (Im not fussed on) and a realy tasty cream coloured flesh it is so scrummy. It is eaten fresh, cooked, used in baking, jams, wine. this is the flower that it comes from. I love the colours and shapes.
