First Hummingbird photo for 2008

here's my first hummingbird image for 2008. Believe it's a Rufous female as I saw white spots on its tail feathers. Usually the Rufous males arrive here first, about 2 weeks before the female and immature Rufous, but so far we haven't seen any rufous males here.

It's great to see the hummers here again, whichever one it is :)

Just wish we'd see one of the male Rufous hummers around tho'. So far no sign of any males.

But I believe this one's a female rufous. Will have to double check in my bird book, but it has white dots on the tips of its tail feathers. Think they got back here 23rd March last year, but we first saw this one on the 16th March this year. Will re-check on my gallery to see what date they got here last year.

There are flowers blooming, all the spring bulbs are flowering, and some camellias, and primulas. The hummers usually arrive when the wild flowering currant bushes bloom, but haven't noticed any in flower around here yet. A neighbour on another street near us has one in her yard, so must look to see if there are any flowers on it when we drive by the next time. It is a little cool at present, - it was milder awhile ago.(not as cold as when you were here tho', - we haven't had it that cold here since : )
