Eagle's Flight at Sundown (fly free now Lucy!)

the bald eagle in flight after it left the power pole, heading west. The sunset was high- lighting its wing feathers and front of its head.

Lucy, fly free now, like the Eagles.

many thanks Zeljko from Croatia, for the nice comments. I find hawks are very difficult to get photos of. They fly so fast. I don't have too much luck with eagles either, but this is probably the best one :) I keep hoping and trying.

belated thanks, Vicki, for the lovely words, only just found them (March 24th now) but appreciated all the same. Yes, it was tragic about Lucy, bless her. So young and so much to live for.

What a magnificent shot !! Congratulations Alandra ! I wonder if I'll ever have that luck ! I've got only some poor shots of hawks.

Whata bea utiful tribute, Alandra. I didn't see this or hear about Lucy's passing before now. I'm so sorry. Cancer's insidious. I'm sure she is indeed at peace now. God bless you and yours. You're a wonderful friend and a pretty gosh-darn good photographer too!

thankyou for the praise Karen, and also the caring thoughts. Interesting you should say this, as a similar situation happened with an eagle a few years ago, right after my brother's stepson died in a vehicle crash, and when a bald eagle suddenly flushed upwards from a tree branch just above us, I said "Soar, Keith", as it flew skywards. Recall mentioning this to my brother at the time.

Due to this, I usually associate eagles with men, but in the case of Lucy, who was so brave and put up such a battle to live, - I thought the eagle was so "right" for her.

I like how you caught the wings on the down stroke and the beautiful feathers. They are so graceful and magnificent. After people have died, survivors often report encounters with birds, so maybe your sentiment is right on.

thankyou Golda for your kind thoughts, and for the generous praise.

thankyou Mary. Am sorry for your family's losses also. It is a terrible disease.

That is so very sad. My prayers go to her family and you too as you were no doubt a friend and grieving too.

We just recently lost a brother in law and Joe's younger brother, both to cancer.

Hi Mary, thanks for your concern. No, nothing has happened to our Lab, Lucy. The Lucy remembered here was a courageous 25 yr old who has been putting up a truly brave fight with cancer for the past year or so, she gave life to her baby boy in early June. But she lost her own battle a week or so ago.

many thanks, Carol, Alex, Mary and Don. I was quite pleased with the curve of the feathers on the wingtips here. He moved away so fast from the top of the power pole, that this frame is not really as sharp as I'd like it to be.

Nice capture! You are so fortunate to live in an area near these magnificant birds. Is Lucy one of your 2 Labs? If so, did she pass and what happened?
