I sincerely appreciate all of your kind comments. This was taken in Illinois, near Hanover (NW corner). I'd never seen one of these up close so I took plenty of photos.

Doug - kudos to you on a phenomenal shot. (I wonder how it will reemerge in one of your "fantasy layers" some day!!!!). Like Karen, we hear them in Michigan and see their outgrown, drab-looking shells - but this gives them a whole new visage. I have an optical mouse with an enlargement feature, so was able to really admire its intrinsic detail. By the translucency I'd guess it had just emerged from its former shell! Awesome.

Wow. Another great shot Doug! I love the detail on him and I love how nature must protect him by making him blend in with the moss on the tree! Beautiful!

Hi again, Doug. meant to ask you, is it necessary to always use a tripod with this lens? thanks. am trying to decide with macro lens to buy.

great macro and interesting also, as have never seen one of these in real life. The wings are pretty.

Beautiful close-up with sharp detail. We hear them in August but usually just find their skin sheds.
