I like this almost as much for its abstract qualities as for its subject. I disagree entirely about the DOF though! I think the contrast of sharpness and blurredness makes the picture much stronger.

Great Cardinal view! The white dogwood and green background helps a lot is making the bird stand out. Your depth of field is a tad tight for me, the flowers by the Cardinal's tail are a little distracting. Still I really like this photo with the bird looking back keeping a eye on you. LOL.. I enjoy photos like this that tells a story.
