Shelley Bay Air Base is part of the Royal New Zealand Air Force. It is mainly used now as an Administration Centre, however the original airforce barracks and mess room and still on campus and are used by military staff. It is on a public scenic coastal drive so members of the public are able to drive through without being stopped by Military Police.
