The Odd Couple

On my way to the laundry room at the campground in Miami, Florida, I did a double take when I saw this Banyan Tree and Palm tree growing together. The Banyan totally encloses the Palm tree, yet it seems to be thriving.

Hi again, Anne. Oddly, Florida seems to have a knack for protecting trees by other species! St Augustine has a 'Lover's tree" which has a palm wrapped inside an oak. It's said that kissing someone underneath it will create a long relationship! Vicki

What a wonderful and lovely find!!! A really unique get-together. *g* And you have a sensational picture of the "two-in-one" tree. I love it. Wish I was travelin' with you. *g* But I guess such beautiful pictures make the picture really great at home too and leave memories of all the wonders.

Hi Steve. Someone else posted a great shot of Banyan trees awhile back. They are really odd, as branches grow from the branches that eventually reach down into the ground and root themselves. They also twist about into unique contortions, so it would be easy for a nearby palm tree to be totally engulfed by one - yet that palm still looks mighty healthy. Vicki

Thank you Cindy. This is a standard edging option in Digital Image Suite 2006. I started out with DIS when it was a complete desktop editing program. Now it's primarily photoediting. I didn't enter this one towards photo quality as it isn't great in that aspect. It was added for the interest factor I thought everyone might enjoy. I used the simplified edging to delete background distractions. Vicki

Evelyn, I walked very slowly around the Banyan tree, looking for the palm tree's trunk on the outside - but it's soundly within on all sides. Vicki
