GENE OUIMETTE Born and raised on the eastern seaboard in the town of Fairhaven, Massachusetts, art & photography have always been an important part of Gene’s life. He received a Bachelor of Fine Art in painting and textile design from the University of Massachusetts, and a Master of Fine Art in painting and print making from the University of Cincinnati. In addition, he has studied Oriental brush painting with Hiroshi Yamamoto in Toronto, and digital imaging at Loyalist College and various on-line courses. Most recently, Gene's digital images from the "SHAMAN ART" series were on exhibition at Torontos' 201 Queen East Gallery, as part of the Contact Festival. The theme, "Virtual Globalization", was perfect for this group of works inspired by ancient & aboriginal cave art from various cultures in Australia, Europe, and North America. Gene’s images have encompassed a wide range of styles from abstracts to botanicals, oriental themes, and landscapes. in a variety of media .Gene also has designed decorative home furnishings collections for a variety of labels. His work in this field has afforded Gene the opportunity to further develop and refine a variety of styles and techniques with international recognition. He has also lectured extensively on color, design trends, and licensing regarding the decorative arts. Gene’s paintings and digital images have been exhibited in solo, group, and juried exhibitions in Canada and the USA. His work is in private collections in Canada, England, Germany, Italy and the USA. Gene has lived in Canada since 1982, and Currently, has a home and studio in Prince Edward County, Ontario, where he continues to expand his love of art, design and the creative process.
