Kudzu on Pine

Kudzu on Pine

Kudzu is an insidious and prolific vine that feeds off well-established shrubbery and trees. In time, the bark of this Pine and all its branches will be lost underneath the growth. It's somewhat uncomfortable to see tracts of forest in Pennsylvania, Mississippi and other states totally enmeshed by the Kudzu.Eventually only the shapes of their hosts remain beneath the vine.

That's good to hear - that it stayed on the trellis - this kudzu is not nice though - it creeps everywhere eventually!

Maybe they like the hummingbirds the trumpet vine attracts? My Mom used to have an archway with trumpet vine. It stayed there and never invaded anywhere else, until finally the wooden archway collapsed with time and rot. Sad...

That's too funny, Alandra - Trumpet Vine is a favorite of mine - I planted some in my garden in Michigan a few years ago - I have no clue if it finally took off or not!!!

our wistaria grew in all the wrong ways, but not in the way it should have, as a result, it's not looking very good these days, the overall effect I mean.

And another that we had a terrible time with, out front, was Trumpet Vine/Campsis!! Don't mention that one to DH, - he had to dig deeeep trenches all over the front patio area to get rid of those roots. I have a pic of him deep down in the trench, when this was going on - should submit it for a smile. And yet there's one glorious specimen near here, that appears over a fence each year, (took some pics of that one last year which are in my gallery) - and these people don't seem bothered by it being invasive. I don't get it : )

Hi Alandra - isn't it odd how we're drawn to certain plants, only to be thwarted when we discover some of their less-friendly traits? Wisteria - a long-time favorite of mine, is another parasite that smothers other growth at an alarming rate!

interested to see this, Vicki. Tried to grow this years ago, soon after we first moved here, without success, - which was lucky, now that have since learned of it's invasive habits : ) By now our home would have been engulfed by Kudzus, lol. Recall ordering the seeds from Park Seeds, we used to receive their catalogues years ago, and spent many hours poring over the gorgeous looking photos and descriptions of their offerings. long before the days of computers, when I did other things than sit here for hours on end : )

Thank you, Dud - are you serious about the tea? Now that I'm out of "Kudzu Country"! I've seen a lot of the stuff your way too

I really like your picture. It would be great if more people drank Kudzu tea. It is a good tea. If more drank it it would not be smothering trees.
