Autumn Tree

I finally decided the only way I would see some real fall foliage is to drive to Lost Maples State Park in the central Texas Hill Country near Vanderpool. It was a 2 and 1/2 hour drive on an overcast day. There the limestone hills create a valley that protects the big-tooth maple trees from the nomally hot Texas summers. The creeks had very little water but the leaves were starting to turn gold, orange and red.

Thanks for your comment. Most places in Texas don't have them because of the heat and dry conditions. That's what makes this park so popular with visitors who miss the colors of autumn.
