California Least Tern. This is an endangered species. Limited to a few breeding colonies in and around California.

This bird was photographed in Alameda. They have unusal feeding practice. They hover over a location in the water, picking out their prey, then dive in an instant, hitting the water pretty hard. If they are lucky they have a small fish. This bird was photographed as it began its dive.
