Take five

It is a rare sight to see a hummingbird stopped, and I was lucky enough to be only 3 feet away. This little guy did not seem to be too bothered that I was sharing his space.

Wintersville,LOL you are just too funny Don.Remember, we are on the west coast, and the weather, usually...(and I use the term loosely)is quite mild at this time of the year.A few days ago tho'it was a different story. We had a very cold ridge of air,and for a few days it felt like "Wintersville"here also. Thanks for looking in.

I can't believe you guys get these guys back so early! Great shot of him! Beautiful hummer Golda!

Vicki, I don't believe you will see a Rufous anywhere in the Eastern US. I wish, but Ruby Throated hummers are all we have. Don

Gplda, is this hummer really this color? It's beautiful. I have to find out if there are any around us here in southern New York. We aren't far from last year's area. I've heard several woodpeckers - four Downys were on a tree together last night - but scooted off when they saw me reach for my camera - darn it - Vicki

Thanks so much everyone, for your great comments.I am finding birds pretty challenging, but this experience was quite encouraging when I see the end result.

great shot of the Rufous male, Golda. Looks like a brother to "ours" :) I see its feeding tube is protruding a bit from the end of its beak.
