Valley Of Fire Arch Rock

This is called Arch Rock that is in the Valley Of Fire and has been photographed to death. The Valley Of Fire State Park is located only six miles from Lake Mead and 55 miles northeast of Las Vegas, Nevada via Interstate 15 and on exit 75. The Valley of Fire is Nevada's oldest and largest state park, dedicated in 1935. The valley derives its name from the red sandstone formations and the stark beauty of the Mojave Desert. Ancient trees and early man are represented throughout the park by areas of petrified wood and 3,000 year-old Indian petroglyph. Popular activities include camping, hiking, picnicking and photography. The park offers a full-scale visitor center with extensive interpretive displays. Several group use areas are also available. The park is open all year. Hey Steve maybe we could meet up there and make a day of it. Hannibal The Crow lives in Vegas and I can be there in two hours :) If anyone wants to learn more about the Valley Of Fire just do a Google search, there are lots of sites about it. I can't wait to go there again. You do a lot of walking so go with good shoes and lots of water.

Hi Magoo, Thanks for your nice comment. The Valley Of Fire is in Nevada close to Las Vegas, but driving from there you can be in Arizona in about a hour. I'm glad you liked my photo :)

I was surprised to see that this was in Arizona. I thought it would be in Arches National Park. Great shot

Hi Alandra, Thanks very much for dropping by and leaving your nice comment. Nevada/Arizona it's still in the desert and close to where I live in AZ LOL.. I guess we all have to enjoy the things that are around us. At least we have photos to share, I will never make it to Canada. Oregon is as close as I will get :)

Oh, okay, now I've read your description and see that this is in Nevada, - have been there, but not to the Valley of Fire.

Hi Alan, not sure how I missed seeing this one earlier, but am echoing the other comments here. Great colours and textures. Fascinating, - would love to see it, DH has lived in AZ but I've never been there.

Hi Brian, It is a photographers heaven and you get lots of exercise. They have a map showing where the things are at, you can drive up close to them but you have to walk a ways after you park. It is for sure worth the visit. If you start in the morning you can see most of it by the end of the day. It was great, everywhere we went there were photo nuts with there cameras on tripods snapping away.

This looks like a really cool place to visit. It's not terribly far from where I live - probably a 5 hour drive, so I may have to travel there some time.

Hi Julie, Thanks for looking at my photo and leaving your nice comment. The Valley Of Fire has no streams or rivers, it has taken hundreds of years for the weather to shape the sandstone mountains.

Wow, and I thought the Moose River had a lot of pot holes. Well hopefully that won't dry up! nic shot!

ROFL Alex :) I have been watching the weather channel and sorta keeping track of who is getting buried in snow. I hear they are working on April 16th as being done removing your snow lol.. Hey Steve, Hannibal is heading out there in a couple weeks. "Giggle".. Thanks Karen, Steve, and Hannibal for your great comments. It's so nice to hear good things from your peers...

You know Alan, the more of your pictures I see, the more you might regret that idea as I'm feeling sorely tempted to book a flight right this minute. See you tomorrow about 6am?! :)
