Along Came a Spider

We were at Toronga Park Zoo in Sydney Australia. We were enjoying looking at animals in their enclosures then I spotted something a matter of inches from my face. This was it. Once I calmed down I had to take a photo. Isnt she beautiful

Hi, Tania. Nice picture! This looks very much like the "silk spider," Nephila ornata, which is native to Australia. A google search should turn up more information on it.

Gorgeous photo! I love the form of the spider, like a dancer, and the filaments of web that are caught in the shot.

I hate spiders and this was right in front of your face? Eww Yuk! I would have been freaking out. Especially in Australia as they have poisonous spiders. Sorry all you Australians, but we just aren't used to that. That is one great shot though Tania. Oh, and when you come over next, we can set our laptops up side by side and then go on a photo excursion. That should please our husbands while they tinker with engines :-)

I have shown a few people this photo to see what kind of spider this is but none of us know. If anyone has any ideas I would love to know.
