Snow Spider

Snow SpiderA lone adult male Tenuiphantes zebra makes its way across the spring snow while out searching for a female. It is a chilly, sunny day, with an ambient temperature of around 4C/39F. These spiders are among the first to show themselves each spring. Many of them build small sheet webs in depressions or footprints within the snow, where they catch springtails and other small arthropods.
The leg span of this little beastie is about 1/4 inch. That's as big as it gets!
