Chinese Mantid

Chinese Mantid

This Chinese Mantid was photographed in Coventry, RI using a Canon 20D, 180mm macro lens, Manfrotto Tripod, and cable release.

I believe that insects often stare into a lens because they can see their own reflection.

What's the difference between a mantid and a mantis? I thought it's a Chinese Mantis. Either way, it's a wonderful image, depth of field is good, and it looks sharp.

great image of the mantis. Am curious as to which macro lens you used, as you mention 2 different lenses, - at the top (in Tools) you say you used a 100mm macro, but in the comments area, you wrote that it was a 180mm macro. I still haven't decided which macro lens to get, - which is why I'm querying. thanks.

This is a great photograph of a praying mantis. The depth of field is awesome as well as the pose and facial expression. It looks like it's smiling for the camera like any other portrait (except for the fact that its a bug).

The mantis is unique in the insect world because it can turn its head and look back at you. They remind me of a tiny dinosaur. Great macro with sharp detail.

Well, if that's the case, you sure take advantage of the fact with exquisite skill!
