Northern Flicker

Beautiful Northern Flicker feeding at the suet cake holder, this is specially for the woodpecker type birds so that their tails rest against the paddle below, enabling them to balance more easily as they feed.

captured from open front window with telephoto.

These birds have such lovely bright red markings plus a lot of red/orange feathers in their tail that flashes as they fly away, and under their wings also, I think.

Hi Dud, good to see you here, thanks for the nice comments. Glad you like it and that it's something different for you. These just seem to be around here each fall and winter.

many thanks to all, glad you liked it :) - Don, Carol, Beverly, Alan, Alex, & Golda. Am not sure about the different colours of its feet, Alan, - maybe just the shadows. Plus, I have a new monitor now and everything looks lighter on it, so am not sure how things are showing up on other monitors. Noticed when I used the old monitor last night, everything looked darker that I'd submitted, so am not sure about the colours now :)

Excellent photo! You did a super job from focusing to the exposure. The Northern Flicker for sure is a very pretty bird. I noticed they have one white foot and one black.
