Northern Flicker March 2007

Northern Flicker on suet feeder hanging beside our driveway. captured from open front window, telephoto with 1.4X teleconverter. Love these Northern Flickers, such beautiful plumage and markings. When they fly away, the undersides of their wings flash a lovely orange/red colour.

thanks for looking, Mary and Alex and for the nice comments, always appreciated. I was lucky to be sitting at the open window as this fella/gal flew in to land on the suet feeder.

thanks Alan, - was really happy to be sitting there when this guy flew in yesterday, as they're quite timid, - however I believe he could see me, and did stay on the feeder for awhile, which surprised me. This was the first shot I got of him, and so far is the sharpest I've looked at, of the series. Was focussing manually, as you have to do with that lens when using the teleconverter (unless you "tape the pins" on it). They do fly fast, -take off with a flash of that lovely colour on undersides of wings.

Wonderful photo Alandra.. Great colors! I like how the wood matches the bird. That is a really pretty bird and fast looking too. I gotta get me one of them there teleconverters.
