: Black Trumpets; This is a group of Black Trumpet mushrooms (Craterellus fallax) , surrounded by clubmoss. They're about an inch or less in height, and are found in wooded areas, often near beech and oak trees. Good shot of the Black trumpets. Nice composition. I have found these several times when out mushroom hunting but have never tried them, don't know why. They are supposed to be great in soups too. Don

Lorraine, the name is simply because of their colour, with black traditionally associated with death and mourning - unlike another fungus with a similar name, death caps, which will kill you for sure!

Beautiful shot! In France these are known as "trompettes de mort" (death trumpets) and are a delicacy. By coincidence I ate some of these for the first time just this Christmas!
