Lulu I would rather have our volcano. I dont miss the earthquakes. We do not get many earthquakes over here and the ones we do get dont cause any damage.

Mt Ruapahu is a different story that is active.

Ah Taranaki (Egmont). A beauty I have yet to see. All that snow looks familiar though. Both this and the Ruapehu shots are truly exquisite. I love our landscape and I'm so glad I live in little old New Zealand. Photos like this aren't just flattery, its what it really looks like! Many people probably don't realise how many volcanoes we have here. Thankfully not many are active. Would you rather live near a volcano or on a fault line like us? It goes with the territory I guess.

Thank you all for your kind comments. Yes this is a volcano, not active though. It has 2 small ski fields and lots of bush walks and beautiful waterfalls,

There is a Maori Legend with Mount Egmont and the other Mountain shown with my photos Mt Ruapahu. Im not sure of the names but Mt Ruapahu had a beautiful wife that Mr Egmont fell in love with they had and affair. Ruapahu and Egmont had a big fight over her and Mt Egmont was driven away. He stopped on the west coast of the north island and there he stays. You can see on maps where Mt Egmont traveled on his escape from the center of the Island. On a fine day you can see both mountains still very regal and comanding

Hi,

I love this photo. I know the weather is changable in the Taranaki and you are lucky to have taken a fine shot of this mountain.

I'm proud to say that my Hubby and I have actually trekked up it on our Honeymoon. However due to the sudden change in weather we could not reach the summit - we were only about 20 minutes from it. I respect this mountain even more now.

beautiful mountain, and what a lovely view to have from your home.

we don't have any views from our house, but whenever we go out, there are mountains almost all around us

A magnificent sight. Is that a volcano? That might make me a little nervous...
