Well, Alan, Alex, Carol and Don, you're all being very kind! The problem lies with the inadequacies of the original image that I snapped hand held with only a 200mm lens. By the time I'd cropped it to make the moon's disk a reasonable size no amount of sharpening (and I gave it a lot!) was going to make up for the camera shake + enlargement! However, I'm going to take a proper shot with a tripod next time, because this colouring technique deserves a better starting point.

I guess a jawbreaker is what we call a gobstopper Don, and your description is cruel but perfect!! :)

I sharpened mine before trying to saturate the colors which probably accounts for the darker colors.
