Snow Falling at Midnight

Snow Falling at Midnight

snow falling at midnight, it wouldn't stop. 27 November 2006. Went out front to capture some images.

You can see where DH had already shovelled the driveway countless times, and it's already filling up with snow again :) Plus you can see the snow actually falling in the background, (where it's darker, up the hill a bit) as well as closer to the camera, plus it's sortof sparkling in places.

There's a street light near the end of our driveway, which explains the different lighting on our vehicle and at that end of the driveway etc. You can almost "hear" the hush that descends on everything during a heavy snowfall such as this. Very beautiful but very inconvenient :)

nice surprise Susan, seeing your comment here, happy you like the snowy scene. That was last November, it was a shock to us in this area, to get such a dumping of snow that early. BUT we had a bit more snow a couple days ago, another shock to have snow on March 1st, LOL. But it was gone in a few hours, thank goodness

Beautiful picture, love the colours given off by the lights.

thanks very much, Mel, for the nice comments, -- yes, that's our driveway. That snow all melted away, and we had our normal weather for a few weeks, - then we had more snow in the past week, not as much as this. It's thawing now, so hopefully won't be around much longer. We're kept busy feeding the wild birds :)

Hi Alandra, Happy New Year!

I love this night shot. That's your driveway?? Its gorgeous!

I love snow, but if I had to live with it for months, I probably would get sick out it fairly quickly!

With the way our weather in Sth Hemi has been lately, would you be surprised if I told you it does still snow in summer in some places in NZ?

thanks to everyone for their nice comments, Steve, Beverly, Joan from NS and Alex. Glad you all enjoyed it. Long gone now and it's like spring out there today.

A very evocative image, and the contrast betwwen the light sources does indeed add another dimension. And you know I love snow anyway!

Lovely scene. Makes me miss my Michigan winters, as we don't get much snow here.

Tania, it's my pleasure, thought it might be special to you girls in NZ and others in places where snow isn't as usual. It actually is quite pleasant going out late like that when nobody else is around and the crescent is totally quiet - no vehicles dare to venture down our hill when snow first falls, otherwise they're "stuck", LOL. So we have the place to ourselves and the dogs (the Labs) loooove it, romping about. I toss snowballs for them, and they dig in the snow to try to find them :)

thanks to you all, Carol, Don and Tania for the lovely comments. Am so glad you enjoyed it. It's strange, as normally I dislike the snow very much, but for some reason, I just "went along with it" this past time, and didn't seem to mind it as much and saw the beauty in it, altho I always was able to see the beauty. But having lived up north with so much snow for sooo long each winter, and also, bad & very sad memories attached to the heavy snowfalls from the past, I never let myself enjoy it for many years, and sort of built a barrier around it in my mind.

Alandra I agree with everyone. This is exquisit. I love the lighting from the streetlight. I have only seen snow like this once, But we had to drive to find it. I would not be able to sleep with beautiy like this outside my window. Thank you for braving the elements to share.

Great shot Alandra! I stared at it for a long time, enjoying the scene, since snow fall has been so scarce here this year. I am glad I'm not alone in loving that special silence that only comes with a heavy snow fall. If possible, I head for the woods and just sit and enjoy, it's listed very high on my favorite things in life list. Happy New Year all. Don

forgot to say thanks for the greeting also, Mary and Happy New Year to you and yours also.

Thankyou also Janice for the nice comments. I also liked the difference in the snow colourings too, in the foreground.

Superb shot. I love the street light coloring and the pure white snow nearer to the camera. Really great shot.

thanks for the nice comments, Mary. I thought the street lamp lighting added something to the scene also. Yes, that certain "hush" only seems to happen when the snow has fallen. Love to go out front late at night with the dogs when it's just snowed, so peaceful and usually doesn't even feel cold for some strange reason.

I like the effect the street light gave the photo. I know exactly what you mean when you talk about the silence when the heavy snow is falling.

I always remember a nature walk from a few years back...in the woods...and the snow was falling. There was a silence that I can't describe but it was beautiful. Happy New Year!
