Pestie wee beastie

If anyone knows the name of this little insect I would be interested to hear from you.

He hovers a lot and then dashes off to his next hover station. I was fortunate enough for this one to settle long enough to get a photo.

This image has been cropped, then the light level darkend just enough to take the glare from the flower.

This is a flower fly in the family Syrphidae. Many species mimic bees or wasps. They are an asset in the garden, though, as larvae of many syrphids eat aphids:-)
