For Japanese Beetles, try a product called Milky Spore. It is like a virus which similar to the bubonic plague to the Japanese Beetles in the grub stage. Home Depot sells it or you can buy in quantity on line. It will work to destroy the population for up to 20 years! I treated my lawn & garden this year & gave up on the spraying. They multiply like bunnies and eat your garden just as quickly as locusts. Now is the perfect time to treat your lawn and garden when they are breeding. Don't wait another year like I did! Lot's of information on line about the product & it's safe, organic and residual.

I hate this insect. This year I attracted multiple black birds, crackles, and red-winged black birds, hoping they would eat them. I think they may have sampled them, but did not like the taste. Now I will try the onion and garlic idea. I have nesting Blue Birds, and I am fearful of using too much pesticides. Thanks for the idea.

Nice photo to view. Yes, these can be a menace, but you can control them from eating your hard work in the garden.

Take a gallon jug, add fresh ground or chopped up garlic & onion. fill with warm to hot water, let sit for 48 hours. Then use this "tonic", and spray your plants with it.Use excess garlic & onion from this & put around your plants.

Excellent photo! I too hate those bugs, finally I dug up my cannas and tossed them, due to these critters destroying the foilage.
