Ruby shopping for custom wall to wall cattail carpet (shag of course). I'm real proud and happy with this capture :-). A little leg work, a little patience, and a lot of luck. Thanks for looking. Don

Thanks all! This is for sure one of my favorite hummer shots. I smile when I think about hiding in that cramped plastic playhouse for so long to get it...lol. Thanks again. Don

I guess I am the only person who didn't see this before. Incredible action shot capturing natural behavior. I used to leave my sheepdog's fur on the patio after her spring haircut and the birds would take it for their nests. I think hummers even use spider webs to hold their nest together. Love this shot!

What a wonderfully taken photo.

You captured the hummer right at

the perfect time. The focus is

only on the bird/cattail. So clear

and the movement in the photo is

perfect. Great job/talent Don.

same here, Plumeriagrl and Don. Have just this minute noticed this fabulous photo! That's a prize capture, for sure, Don. We have seen the hummers gathering their nesting material, infact we always leave the seed heads all winter,in our gardens, from the one flower that they use (Japanese Anemones, or windflowers) - the hummers break the seed heads open and pull the fluff or downy stuff out to line their nests with. Sometimes if they've been drinking nectar before gathering the "fluff", it will stick to their beaks :)

I hate when I'm not on line every day to see everyones photo and then I have to play catch up. I was just getting tired and getting ready to shut down when I spied this capture. Wow!!! This is awsome. The details and lighting are very striking. The DOF is perfect. Very very nice work here Don!!! Super capture.

Thanks everyone! I truely appreciate the comments! I have not located her nest yet, I watch where she enters the woods but they are so tiny. I'd love to get some nest and chick photos if I could do it without disturbing her. But the way the leaves are out now it isn't likely I'll ever find the nest. Thanks again. Don

Great capture! Do you know where the nest is being built? It would be wonderful to get pictures of the chicks. I cannot imagine how small a baby hummingbird would be. We had a hummingbird build a nest right outside our house in California and lay two eggs, but a crow got to the eggs before they hatched.
