Hummingbird Laying in Water, beak immersed

Rufous hummingbird laying and splashing in the water on our front patio stream, his beak is immersed right in the water, had never seen this before, and you can see where he's churning the water up with his wings. There are 2 sprays of water droplets/splashes beyond the rear of his body.

I watched as he paddled/skimmed across the water like a little boat, first time I'd seen one do that, altho had seen them bathe many times.
