Hollyhock in Black

black Hollyhock beside the fence out front. Had not expected these to bloom as planted it kindof late, so was really happy to suddenly notice these flowers a few days ago.

thanks for the generous praise, Kerry, it's very encouraging and appreciated. Have always wanted to visit Australia and New Zealand, unfortunately, developed a fear of flying many years ago, altho flew/travelled a fair bit in my younger days : ) - helicopters and small float planes while in northern BC, and regular airlines back and forth to England

a friend in PA was telling me that a neighbour of hers had some of these but "double" variety. Now I want to hunt for those for next summer : ) - earlier in the season too, hopefully, as I love the double type of all flowers.

Sadly tho', new people moved in to my friend's neighbours home, and rototilled the entire flower garden, blasting everything to bits. needless to say, she wishes she'd rescued some of those wonderful double hollyhocks.

thankyou Alex D and Lulu for the praise. Glad you like the background/framing.

Know what you mean, Lulu, re the flowers getting beaten up by the rain, as I went back out yesterday to take some more pics of these, and most of them where "shot", only the newly opening buds were in good shape. Most of the larger leaves were full of insect holes and some had rust, which hollyhocks are susceptible to, I guess. That's what's so nice about capturing the flowers in photos, as they last "forever" then, right.

Alandra, this is beautiful. The framing looks really good too. I have never seen a black hollyhock either. I nearly took a photo of a black tulip in my mothers garden the other day but it was a bit weather-beaten. Would have been a nice photo if I got it at its prime.
