thanks Fella. I did check one book, but have others to look at (when I unearth them lol)- one stated a difference in the end of tail shape, but I have to re check.

Don, was also hoping someone could identify the hawk for me, will have to get the bird book out. Maybe a Coopers, or sharp shinned, or sparrow hawk (not sure if that's the same as Cooper's?)

thankyou all, Carol, Alex, Don and Shreekant. Was also pleased with the "fan tail" that he displayed as he sat there. Kept thinking he was about to take off, so kept altering the length of the lens in order to "get him all in" as he left, but he didn't go, so had to keep changing it lol. And then didn't even see him go :) A young woman walked past with a baby stroller, and he left then.

Another great capture of the hawk. Love those cross-eyes! lol. I'd be interested in knowing what type he is? He doesn't look quite like any we have here. Don

LOL, Cindy, about the cross eyed part, that's true, he does look crossed eyed. - well, I was just below him, in between our place and the next door neighbour's. It's the telephoto lens that lets me get that close. Had hoped to capture him as he took off, but missed that, went indoors to get a new memory card, he was still there when I ret'd, but took off before I knew it. Didn't see him go. Silent flight, like the owls.

It amazes me how you can get such great close-ups on your bird photos, this one looks like you were that close, he has gone cross-eyed looking at you! I do love this photo tho. Very nice!
