Rancher Minniss

: Rancher Minniss; This photo goes with the one dated 1859. This is a much later photo of Jaduthan Fuller Minniss, taken on his ranch on the plains of eastern Colorado. I think the woman is my aunt Florence. He and my grandmother had 12 children out there on that ranch. All lived to adulthood. The first home they built was one of the sod homes you might have read about or seen on the History Channel. Jim, that is probably a Stetson, the hat of the American West. I sure wish I had that one. I don't know what ever happened to it. My Uncle Jim had a big Stetson too. Maybe got it from his dad.

I'm sure he had many stories. I wish I'd known him when I was older. He died when I was 6. I remember him as a rather fierce old guy. Nobody messed with him except Grandma!

oh, this is just great, Gary! You must be very happy to have these. Have never seen an oldie pic quite like this before, - with the young woman, all decked out in the rancher type clothing. Fabulous. The woman is very pretty and your grandfather is very distinguished looking and a good looking man. The woman looks as if she has had her hair "marcelled" (waved). Wonder if they did that procedure with the hair in those days? Right down to the dog behind them, this is just so great. thanks for sharing this.
