Will repeat a bit of what I replied there, incase you don't go back there. It does seem as if this is a "bluebell" or scilla, from the height you describe. But have never seen a bluebell at that stage of growth.

Coincidentally, was just reading in an ancient Girls Own Annual last nite, about a lovely bluebell wood, sort of a "guided imagery" type piece of writing. The author of the writing went thru the seasons, and when she came to the Spring imagery, it was a wonderful bluebell wood that she chose to describe. Thought you'd probably enjoy it too, but it would take a fair bit of typing to copy out. I'd have to send it privately.

bit confusing, this one : ) - wondering what size these flowers/plants are? looked in my plant book recently, and was surprised that another name for "scilla", is "Bluebell"!! All the years of seeing and loving bluebell woods, never knew the real name of them : )

I think the hyacinth part, comes from "grape hyacinths"/muscari, which are quite small and lower growing than regular hyacinths, and which look similar, colour wise, but have never seen grape hyacinths form the little "open bells". the flowers remain in more closed form, like little balls growing up the stems -- at least that's what our grape hyacinths are like. As for the "real" or regular type hyacinths) - have several pics of them on my gallery)--

they are quite a lot bigger than the grape hyacinths and do have similar little open "bells".

This is the same type of flower in my gallery. They sure are interesting flowers. The nursery guy at a local park told me it was called a scillia.
