Flashback

This house is opposite our home farm, when we were little there was always an abundance of other kids to play with, now it seems so sad to see it neglected and used as a storage for farm junk. I have just brought a wacom graphix tablet so this is my first attempt with it and have added a faint image of 2 children playing in the swing that hung from the old pohutakawa tree.

Hello Cindy this is so well composed and presented that it leaves the viewer to immagine so many things, I love these old buildings.

Thanks so much Misty, what a nice comment to leave. It is exactly how I felt when I took the photo and could instantly see how to convey it. I myself still have so much feeling for this photo. Thank you :)

I like this picture very much. The house seems to drip sadness and with the effect of the children just say to me that the only thing left in this house are the ghosts of time past. I very much like it and I think it conveys a lot of feelings. I think a photo is excellent if it makes the viewer feel something. You did that for me. Good job.

I'm sorry Steve, I got caught up in the cafuffle and forgot to thank you for your kind remarks. I feel exactly as you have said in your remarks about my picture. I know to some its just an old house, but to me is housed all the children we grew up with and adults that were friends to my mum and dad, it was so so sad to see it in present state, alone in an empty paddock. I do have a love for very old homes too.

I tend to agree with you Mary, I think the negative comments I recieve stem from the same person with a very big chip on their shoulder. They do not bother me, infact they inspire me more. I know very little of photography but have learnt so much since joining L/F and the wonderful people on here, I feel like I know you all personally. I am in a very good place!

Kevin my mother always said if you cant say anything nice dont say anything at all, something about your comments seems very fishy to me.

Karien from TX on Dec 20, 2006 at 8:41 AM said:

Kevin at the end of the day "happy snapping" and "enhancements" dont matter the slightest. This is an excellent picture and one I think Cindy is very right to be proud of.

Steve Brown (sgbrown) from UK on Dec 20, 2006 at 6:49 AM said:

So it was hardly worth your while to comment then, was it Kevin?

Cindy, I'd not looked at this image before until I saw Kevin's rather graceless contribution, and I think that it's quite a gentle and affecting image, and one that clearly expresses your sense of nostalgia and regret. Could hardly be further from a "happy snapper" picture, though what's so bad about happily snapping images I can't begin to imagine!

kevin from NTH AK New Zealand on Dec 20, 2006 at 6:29 AM said:

After study of your work, you are a happy snapper, who uses alot of graphic applications to enhance images, sorry but theres just nothing in your work that impresses me.

I have become so proud of this picture now after all the lovely comments and even tho it took me a day to do, I now know that patience makes a better job! Thanks all :) :)

Very nice piece of work Cindy! I really like the look of it. Neat to see an image pulled from the depths of your mind. Don

this caught my eye right away, as am trying to catch up with all the newest photos on here. Love those oldie photos. Like what you've done here, adding the shadowy images of the children, very nice. You've got me thinking about the Wacom tablet I got a year ago around this time of year, and have never tried it out yet! Now my desktop puter's at the Sony place, being checked over, so it will be awhile yet before it comes back to me. I find using the laptop difficult to edit the photos.
