Support Your Local Fire Department

Was in the vicinity of a house fire in Pleasanton, CA. Being a fire truck chaser since early childhood, I had to see what was going on when I heard the sirens. Naturally, I had my camera with me. I was only on scene about 10 minutes, but was able to catch a shot of a car on fire that had a magnesium explosion. (Apparently, a car has some components made out of magnesium. When they get hot enough, they explode bursting in a white light and unleashing a shower of white hot sparks). That is what you see in this cropped shot of a fire fighter running towards the burning house.

I envision this shot as a promotion for the local firefighter.

Although the circumstances behind this photo isn't pleasant, it's really very beautiful and fascinating to look at. Great capture!

Nice picture... very dramatic. Firefighters are awesome, and congrats that they used your photo for their cover.

I don't know about car batteries, but cars do contain some magnesium parts including, steering collumns, clutch housing, seat frames, etc. Magnesium explosions take place when super-heated magnesium comes in contact with water.

Timing was perfect for this capture. Does a car battery have magnesium? I know they can explode. Anyway, this is a great action shot.
