To all those fathers out there this is for you. The photo is of a male Mourning Dove caring for its two squabs.

The photo was taken using the camera's intervalometer. If you don't know what this is, it is the feature on some cameras allowing you to program your camera to shoot period shots of the same scene as it unfolds.

I propped my tripod up a couple of feet from the nest, and programmed the intervalometer to shoot one shot every minute for 100 minutes. In fact for the past couple of days, I have been doing this nearly continuously during daylight hours.

Using this method, I have obtained several amazing shots, of which this is only one. It enables me to be free from the camera for about an hour & a half, and the nesting birds to be free from strangers interested in their behavior. It is a win-win arrangement.

Later I play the photos on a slide show with a 1 sec display for each. What I get is a slow motion type of movie of their behavior over the 100 minutes that elapsed. It is very interesting to watch their behavior over time.
