A Farmer's Epitaph

Many years before I was born, my home state of Rhode Island was mostly farmland and open country. Since then, it has been replaced with what society calls progress. Those beautiful open areas have been replaced with condos, office buildings, malls, and homes. The remnants of those times past can be seen in Yankee stone walls threading their way through the remaining woods and fields along with forgotten burial sites and old rusted farm equipment.

I often wonder how much progress we have actually made.

This image really touches my heart and brings back the olden days when I watched my Uncle at work on his farm. My Dad had a Trucking Business but he was always there when his brother was filling the silo. *g* Those were such good family times. Huge dinners at noon to keep the men going. Thanks for bringing back a scene that was still alive and active as I was growing up. I miss those wonderful times also.

The dark and light contrast and composition are beautiful. This has a somber yet peaceful mood. Well done.

I too miss the beautiful open areas that have been turned into "cookie cutter" housing developments.

Great capture, a very serene image.

A beautiful image. So sad to hear about all the loss of farmland, unfortunately that is going on all over.

A poignant and touching image. The B&W tones work superbly, and are wonderfully controlled.

I could not agree with your sentiments more.
